Moving never seems to get any easier! Here's a checklist to help you prepare.

Make written agreements with sellers/buyers (ideally at the time of the contract, but definitely long before the closing date) regarding possession of the home and moving date.

Start planning early. Once you're confident you'll be proceeding with the purchase, start weeding out your possessions. Toss, sell or donate what you don't want to move.

Compare moving plans. On your own? All professional movers? Or a combination? Don't wait until the last minute to compare rates, services and availability.

Prepare a list of all those you will need to contact regarding your new home (utilities, schools, etc.).

Make a list of important items you need to buy for the new house (draperies, blinds, shower curtains, etc.).

Start packing early. Anything you're sure you won't be using before moving day should get boxed.

Allocate a "staging area" for items ready to be moved. This way boxes aren't scattered throughout your present living quarters.

Mark every box and carton. It makes it easier to locate an item you may need, and makes it simpler after you move. Unpacking will probably be a gradual process -- with clearly labeled boxes you'll know where the most necessary items are.
